The Calling of God – Leaving the passing pleasures of sin
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in the portion of Bible that we have been meditating upon in the past days we saw how God touches our lips and how he is there with our tongue and our mouth and he is with Moses as his mouth for his mouth and as his tongue for his tongue. We have been meditating upon the Bible verses regarding this.
We see that God is sending Aaron along with Moses to deliver the Israelites from Egypt. But to Moses, in Exodus 4: 17 And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.” God is giving importance to those who have received God’s mouth and tongue for his work.
So, Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Egypt and see whether they are still alive.’’ And his father-in-law Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace” and sends him.
Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
My dear people, it is only after this, that to redeem our soul (Israel) from the sin, which is Egypt, the miracles that God is showing as a pattern through Moses begins.
The rod (Christ) which is in Moses’s hand is God’s word.
And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.
God is only hardening the heart of Pharaoh. He is saying that he will not let the people go. Then why is he sending Moses to do these wonders before Pharaoh? It is true that many people will have questions in their soul regarding what the reason for this is.
The reason for this is that Pharaoh is seated on the throne as the king of a land. God is hardening his heart means that it is not enough for Pharaoh alone to leave the people of Israel because the future generations will take opportunity after that and it was God’s will to destroy the army of Egypt and all the family of Pharaoh. Therefore, God is fulfilling his will. He is showing this as a pattern that our soul, which is the world, flesh should be completely redeemed from the bondage of sin. Since God has this in his mind, he is showing this as a pattern using Moses and after that he is sending Christ for us to this world and all the flesh is being torn and he dies for our sins and iniquities and he raises up on the third day. This is to show that the redemption of our soul should be in this manner that is we must die to all sin, infatuations and lusts and for our soul to raise up with God’s word, which is the glorious Christ all our sins should be removed and he is gracious to cleanse us.
God is showing us this as a pattern through the redemption of Israelites and is drowning the whole army of Pharaoh in the Red sea (sea of sin) and only the Israelites come and reach to the other shore walking on dry land without their feet getting wet. We come to know very well that at that time, along with them the Spiritual rock, which is Christ went before them.
That is why, even though we hear God’s word our heart keeps slipping away and keeps disobeying. The reason is that God is hardening our heart.
My dear people, the people of God who are reading this everyone whose hearts are not obeying God and are slipping away should be careful warning themselves. Later God will put lot of pressure and break our soul and will fulfil all his deeds not leaving one behind.
Therefore, my dear people let us submit ourselves now itself with a decision. But we must never forget that God is the one who fulfils what he thinks. None of us must think that we can cheat him.
Exodus 4: 22 – 24 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Israel is My son, My firstborn.
So, I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn.”’”
And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that the Lord met him and sought to kill him.
God is trying to kill Moses at the encampment. The reason for this is that God told Moses that I will teach you what you shall do. But Moses stays on the way according to the word of God. Therefore, God tries to kill him in the place where he stayed.
Exodus 4: 25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!”
Exodus 4: 26 So He let him go. Then she said, “You are a husband of blood!”—because of the circumcision.
From this, what we must understand is that God is calling Moses for his work. Even though Moses refused initially, later he obeys.
But God is telling him to go to Pharaoh and is telling him regarding the things he must do. But he is trying to kill him. What is the reason for it? Everyone of us whatever iniquity we may do if we do not confess it at God’s feet and reconcile, we will not be able to have fellowship with God. God is showing us this clearly as a pattern through Moses.
That is, when Moses left Pharaoh’s palace and came, he says Hebrews 11: 25, 26 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,
esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.
For Moses, who spoke in this manner he is giving him the daughter of the priest of Midian. And he bore a son and called his name Gershom. When he was naming him, he said, “I have been a stranger in a foreign land” and named him.
But when God tried to kill him, Zipporah cut off the foreskin of her son and cast the blood at Moses’ feet, and when she said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!” God lets him go.
The reason for this is that God is showing us as a pattern through Moses that all the passing pleasures of sin should not be there in the fellowship with God and those who want eternal life should leave the passing pleasures of sin. God is showing as a pattern that we must enter not a foreign land but our own land which is Canaan. Moses’s wife Zipporah cuts off the foreskin of Gershom and does circumcision. In that manner, she is saving her family in God. Therefore, we must also save our family in this manner, within God.
In this manner, we, and our family (church) Philippians 3: 3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Let us confess our mistakes in this manner and submit ourselves to God.
Let us pray. May the Lord bless you all
