The Third Plague of Egypt – Lice (The Activity of Lice)
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in the portion of the Bible that we meditated upon in the past days, we meditated on certain facts that we should be safe guarded and not be deceived by the evil spirits. But in the land of Pharaoh, which is Egypt, God who sent the frogs, due to the reason that Israel, the church was not allowed to worship God, we are able to read that thirdly he sends lice.
Exodus 8: 16 – 18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.’”
And they did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth, and it became lice on man and beast. All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
Now the magicians so worked with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not. So, there were lice on man and beast.
Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the Lord had said.
My dear people, God is saying Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land. Few days back we meditated that the Bible verse says that because they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters, those who depart from you their names will be written in the earth. We know that the dust shall be the serpent’s food.
If we are not revived by the life of Christ, Psalms 119: 25 My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word. In the word of God, the life of Christ is present. The soul of everyone who believes the word of God is being revived. If the soul is not revived, it remains as dust. Dust signifies the ground. In this ground, which is the dust the serpent is there. Therefore, God says since Pharaoh is not sending the Israelites to hold a feast for God and his heart is hardened, when he tells Moses to strike the rod in the dust of the ground, on the man and beast and all the dust of the land there came lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
Now the magicians decided to do the same thing and when they could not do the same, they say that “This is the finger of God.” Finger of God is Christ. He is sending the plagues of Egypt. That is the rod.
We all know regarding lice. It is a type of abomination that spreads on man and on the beasts. But if it is present in the ground also all over Egypt, we must think what an abomination it is. If it is present on someone’s head or on the beast it is exceedingly difficult to get rid of it. But through the flies, it will go to others. But if it is present in our soul how abominable it is. It will bite us a lot. It will also disturb others. These are the false teachings. It will spread all over the world. We must walk carefully.
But in the ground of the soul that is saved, it will not come. Therefore, if we leave Egypt and are separated and if we are saved, our soul will not be filled by abominable deeds. We will not do evil for others. We will not think evil.
If we are an Israelite, the deeds of lice should not manifest in our soul. But if we are a problem for others and if we do evil, we have not separated completely. We are still an Egyptian. Our heart is as Pharaoh hardened. But what God wants in us is a clean heart. Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are pure in heart. If we do evil for others, God will do evil for us. If we do good for others, God will do good for us. If he is doing evil, then we must think that it is the finger of God.
In the Old Testament, God is showing us as a pattern among our forefathers that we must walk very carefully in our lives.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, when he was preaching to the people in the temple of God, in John 8: 3 – 6 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,
they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.
Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”
This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.
When we read this, if we find fault with others, we are finding fault about Jesus Christ. In that case, we come to know that he is writing our name in the dust. Our soul is the dust, it becomes the serpent’s food. (We will be as those with the Satan’s deeds).
John 8: 7, 8 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
And again, He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
From this what we know is that, if we condemn others, we ourselves become at fault and are condemned. Our name is being written in the dust.
We have a plank in our own eye, but we see the speck in other’s eye. We must take out the plank in our eye. We will meditate about the finger of God tomorrow. Let us all obey the voice of God so that he does not send any plague on us.
Let us pray. May the Lord bless you all abundantly.
