God quenches the thirst for Israel the church
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in the portion of the Bible that we meditated upon in the past days, we meditated that in Elim there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees in the place where the generation of Israel camped. That signifies our Lord Jesus Christ’s wife, who is the bride; the experience of the Holy Spirit coming within us also the seventy elders who were anointed by the Holy Spirit comparing them to the seventy palm trees; and for the seventy disciples who received the power of Lord Jesus Christ, in the Old Testament he is showing the seventy elders as a pattern. But we come to know that the twelve springs, the disciples abided with Christ. We meditated day before yesterday that this is regarding the work of God and the experience of building the city of Zion within us.
But today the words of the Bible that we are meditating is that Israel, the church set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore, the people contended with Moses. So, Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?”
And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” So, Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!”
Exodus 17: 5 – 7 And the Lord said to Moses, “Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river and go.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
So, he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim
My dear people, when they camped in Rephidim because there was no water, they are tempting God and contending. As they were contending, that place was named Massah and Meribah and God allowed the Amalekites to come and fight against the Israelites.
Before that he told Moses to strike the rock with the rod in your hand. He said then water will come out of it. And Moses did the same. The reason is water (Living water as a pattern) since it is becoming less frequently, if water must come without any lack it is available only in the rock. That rock is Christ.
God is saying Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock. The person saying in this manner is God, which is the Word. Rock is filled with word. If it is struck, the word will flow as a river. It will not dry. As a living river which does not dry in our life anytime whoever it may be God can drink. They will never be thirsty. It is for this that Father God sent Christ to the world and is showing as a pattern that he is going to do in this manner.
These things how God is performing is that he is sending his only begotten Son to this world and is submitting him on the cross and when they pierced His side with a spear, immediately blood and water came out as a river. The reason is that he is sending him in our soul as a living water that quenches our thirst forever. And by that blood he is buying the church.
Also, because they tempted God, he causes war in our soul for generation to generation. We see that initially for the first time the Amalekites fight against the generation of Israel. The reason for this is that if the sons of Israel want to receive redemption, they have to win over all the tribes (world) and be victorious and for this he submitted him (Christ) on the cross. He is showing that by that blood only there is redemption. Also, he is showing us clearly that only by his word we have attain life.
Therefore, in Exodus 17: 9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”
So, Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
And so, it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
But Moses’ hands became heavy; so, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
So, Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
The reason why the generation of Israel is having a war with Amalekites is that Israel, the church forgot the goodness that God did and because they tempted him, God sends Amalek.
Also, because God had a plan that Christ should die for the people that is why to defeat the flesh spirit is necessary. So, God is doing certain things with a purpose. To order the spirit of God into the heart of all men he is creating an opportunity. For that to show as a pattern beforehand, in the hand of Moses, the rod (Christ) which is God’s word was there.
When the hand was held up, the Israelites are prevailing. That is, in our life to win the fight against the Amalekites rising up against us, God’s word, which is the rod (Christ) must be there. But in the situation that Christ was beaten, we must die to sin and live unto righteousness. Only then we can destroy the tribe of Amalekites in our soul. That is why, in Exodus 17: 14 – 16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”
And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner.
for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
Considering these things beforehand only, in Exodus 16: 33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot and put an omer of manna in it, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your generations.”
Exodus 16: 34 As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
The reason for saying in this manner is that there will be war with Amalek from generation to generation. That only Christ, the living bread can win the war. Also, the war against the throne of Christ is Amalek. In that place, God’s word, who is the glorious king and God is beaten and from the throne of the Lamb (striking the rock) we see that rivers of living water begin to flow.
In this manner, he quenches the thirst of the Israelites and destroys the deeds of the tribes and Christ manifests as victorious in battle.
Let us submit ourselves for God to bless all of us in this manner.
Let us pray.
