Idol worship means worship unto death - Explanation
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in the portion of the Bible that we meditated upon in the past days, that those who receive the kingdom of God whatever tribulations, reproach, bondages may come we must wait patiently and we must receive it. The people of Israel because they did not have patience, made idols and worshipped them. Therefore, God is telling them that they are stiff necked people. Therefore, it was a worship unto death. Regarding the worship unto death, what God is telling is that Hosea 13: 13 – 16 The sorrows of a woman in childbirth shall come upon him. He is an unwise son, for he should not stay long where children are born.
“I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.”
Though he is fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come; The wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness. Then his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up. He shall plunder the treasury of every desirable prize.
Samaria is held guilty, for she has rebelled against her God. They shall fall by the sword, their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child ripped open.
In the above-mentioned verses, he is telling regarding Eprahim: Eprahim is a cake unturned, they are people who are not firm. Their iniquity is bound up says the Lord. Regarding the thoughts of flesh that is in them, God is saying that he will ransom them from the power of the grace and redeem them from death. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Hosea 13: 1 – 6 When Ephraim spoke, trembling, He exalted himself in Israel; But when he offended through Baal worship, he died.
Now they sin more and more, and have made for themselves molded images, idols of their silver, according to their skill; All of it is the work of craftsmen. They say of them, “Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves!”
Therefore, they shall be like the morning cloud and like the early dew that passes away, like chaff blown off from a threshing floor and like smoke from a chimney.
“Yet I am the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt, and you shall know no God but Me; For there is no saviour besides Me. I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
When they had pasture, they were filled; They were filled, and their heart was exalted; Therefore they forgot Me.
Regarding the people of Israel what God is saying is that in the land of great drought I knew you. When they had pasture, they were filled, and he is saying that then their heart was exalted and therefore they forgot me. Eprahim exalted himself in Israel, but he sinned more and more, and made for themselves molded images, idols of their silver, according to their skill; In this manner, Eprahim, the Israelite committed mistake in the matter of Baal and was destroyed.
My dear people when we meditate upon the words of God everything that a craftsman moulds and makes with silver or gold is an idol and we see that God is calling them as calves. The reason for God to show this as a pattern is that the people of Israel made the calf through Aaron and worshipped.
Then in Exodus 32: 17 – 21 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”
But he said: “It is not the noise of the shout of victory, nor the noise of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing I hear.”
So it was, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. So, Moses’ anger became hot, and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.
Then he took the calf which they had made, burned it in the fire, and ground it to powder; and he scattered it on the water and made the children of Israel drink it.
And Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”
That is, when Joshua told Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp,” Moses said “It is not the noise of the shout of victory, nor the noise of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing I hear.” And as soon as he came near he saw the calf and the dancing and became angry and he cast the tablets out of his hands at the foot of the mountain, broke them then burned it in the fire, and he scattered it on the water and made the children of Israel drink it. The people of Israel worshipping the idols became a great transgression for God and did evil for God and they became evil people. Also, we see that Aaron tells Moses everything that happened.
Exodus 32: 24, 25 And I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.’ So, they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out.”
Now when Moses saw that the people were unrestrained (for Aaron had not restrained them, to their shame among their enemies),
In the above-mentioned verses, Aaron to shame the people of Israel among their enemies he made them unrestrained. Then when Moses saw that they were unrestrained, he asked who all are in the Lord’s side and when he told to come to the entrance of the camp, everyone from the tribe of Levi came and stood there. Then Moses said ‘Let every man put his sword on his side, and go in and out from entrance to entrance, and let every man kill his brother, every man his companion, and every man his neighbor and they did the same way. ‘Let every man put his sword on his side, and go in and out from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and let every man kill his brother, every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’ And about three thousand men of the people fell that day. God is showing this as a pattern that these are worship unto death. In this manner, many people, without knowing that these are idols and decorate themselves with silver and gold and are spoiling themselves.
My dear people who are reading this, let us not decorate ourselves with idols also serve the idols by standing in front of them and doing a worship unto death and destroy ourselves but let us submit ourselves to do a worship pleasing God.
Let us pray. May the Lord bless you all abundantly
